This is another one of those BTS related things that I tried to do on my YouTube channel that fell through massively. It’s such a shame because this was by far, my favourite video to film and edit but because of copyright it got blocked worldwide straight away! Anyway, I will try to convey my reactions to these music videos through words rather than through expressions. If you’re curious about what my top 5 favourite BTS music videos are and why, then carry on reading.

5. Blood, Sweat and Tears

Blood, Sweat and Tears is an absolute anthem and we all know this. The song is a bop, no questions about it. The music video is equally as good, which is saying something! At this point in BTS’s career, this music video probably had the highest production value and you can really tell.

Starting with their costumes, wow oh wow, the boys looked incredible. They have 2 sets of clothing in this music video, one with satin, loose shirts and the other in detailed suits. They all look incredible in both the looks they are given. Along with their costumes, they all got new hair colours for the new album. Can we take a moment to appreciate blonde Taehyung and pink Seokjin, like both of these hair colours are superior and need returning in my opinion.

The set design and camera work is something neither England nor America could rival. One set resembles an art gallery or museum, and the others range from bedrooms to exterior home environments, such as terraces. The camera work shows the change of these beautifully through upwards and downwards transitions of the sets being on top of another, as well as panoramic shots of the bigger sets showcasing all the props and details they’ve included. The set design complimented by the costumes really creates an amazing vibe and sets the scene for the story they are telling.

It goes without saying how amazing the choreography is and it’s amazing how much of it they show when there’s so much acting and other material they include as well. Whilst we’re talking about acting, how amazing is it to see actor Jin?? He originally wanted to be an actor, and I can see why! This boy is talented and I am living for the amount of screen time and appreciation he gets in this music video.

Now onto specific moments in the music video that specifically killed me (in a good way). Starting with the king of Wings which is J-Hope. If you don't agree with me that J-Hope owned the Wings album in general, but BS&T specifically, then you’re just wrong. He looks so fire with his orange hair and gold suit, while he has two rap segments and controls the choreography. I literally couldn’t take my eyes off him the entire way through.

As well as J-Hope being incredible, I was feeling attacked by V who was trying to bias wreck me the entire way through. His blonde hair is something that attacks my soul, partnered with his seductive cutaways and his beautifully high voice, I was a bit worried about my loyalty to be honest.

With all that said, my one and only Jeon Jeongguk served some serious sex appeal and seductiveness throughout this mv. All of his cutaways caught me by surprise and left me speechless, the cameo of him flying gave me chills and the two “oh na na na” at the end gave me goosebumps big enough that I basically had mountains on my skin.

With all this said, there were some elements of this music video that I wasn't keen on. This might be the media student within me saying all of this, you guys might not have even noticed nor cared if you did. Personally, I found some of the post production choices to change the colouring of scenes an interesting choice because I found it clashed with the amazing special effects. The special effects of paintbrush strokes and explosive pink and green colour looked fantastic, but pairing it with abstract changes of colour was distracting, clashing and unnecessary in my opinion.

Nevertheless I absolutely love this music video and it deserves the hype it got and still gets. It’s one of those music videos you could watch over and over again and notice something new every time because there's so much to it, you’re guaranteed to have missed something the first time.

4. War Of Hormone

War of Hormone is one of those songs from BTS’s early days that still bangs. It was one of the first music videos I ever watched when it came to BTS and it was such a bop it got me right away. You can see how young they are in comparison to BS&T and it’s actually so cute to see.

Again, starting with their costumes, I love the monochrome theme paired with red. It goes really well with the music video’s colouring, where the saturation is very low, making the red really standing out. They are wearing very clean cut outfits varying from smart, like RM, to rocky, like V, to fairly shabby like Jungkook.

The fluidity of the camera movement and cinematography is so nice to watch, it makes it seem like the whole music video is filmed in one take. The juxtaposing jolting zooms and camera pans adds an element of edge, which compliments the boys’ appearances and gives the music video an edgy vibe.

Talking about the boys individually, V attempts to bias wreck me throughout the entire music video! His styling in this mv is one of my favourites, and this is one of my favourite hairstyles he has ever had. So with him looking amazing and having loads of screen time, it was quite unfair on testing my loyalty.

Moving onto Jin, I think he looks fantastic in this music video. His messy hair, paired with his tartan suit makes him look like a puppy and it’s a concept I can truly get behind.

Someone who is severely slept on in the music video is J-Hope, the only camera time he gets is when it’s his turn to rap but even then he gets mugged off by the girl and I just feel sorry for him. Hoseok is my weakness and I wish he had more screen time in this video. The video as a whole is dominated by the maknae line, which I simultaneously love and hate. The maknae line are my fave and I love them to pieces, but I hate seeing the hyung line being under-appreciated.

Now, let’s talk about my bias and the golden maknae, Jeon Jeongguk. This was the music video that made me realise I had a special place in my heart for Jungkook and that he would forever destroy my life. His black hair, parted at the side and styled all messy is my weakness and is such a superior look.

The fact that he raps and sings in this song makes me love him ten times more as well. I love that he gets to show off all his skills. I also rate that he lifts up Suga during his rap, you would never think he’s the maknae if you didn’t follow the band.

All in all, for a blast from the past, this video is amazing and forever will remain one of my favourites. It shows how far they’ve grown, and was at a point where the boys stopped looking like babies and were developing their own personalities and styles. There is a lot of tongue technology and it was where the ‘jibooty’ was born. Iconic.

3. Dope

Now Dope has a special place in my heart as it was the very first music video from BTS that I had ever seen. And it’s safe to say I was actually obsessed with it. I remember showing my best friend the next day at school being like “oh my god how sick is this the dancing is insane”. She wasn’t as impressed but wow I went through such a BTS phase in Sixth Form I’m quite sad I fell out of it before 2017.

Anyway, the music video itself is very cool. It’s shot as if it’s all taken in one take and there’s no editing. The characterisation of the music video is amazing, you have each member of BTS dressed as a different job, and it serves some serious kink realness. You have Jin as a doctor, Suga as a marine, J-Hope as a race-car driver, RM as a hotel bellboy, Jimin as a businessman, V as a detective and Jungkook as a police officer.

The choreography for this song is one of my favourites of all time. I remember watching it for the first time and being absolutely blown away. I couldn’t believe these guys could make dancing looks so easy when I could tell it was ridiculously hard. It also amazes me that they can dance so amazingly with so much passion and still serve sensual looks to the camera. We stan kings here everyone.

Onto the members individually, we have red haired Jimin which is AMAZING. No one talks about red haired Jimin enough, I think this era is really under-appreciated in terms of him. I personally think he looks the best in this music video than any other. I really like his red hair and think it should come back.

Similarly blonde Suga is something everyone can get behind. Whenever I see Yoongi blonde it gives me serious Agust D vibes and I love it so much. Most people love black haired Yoongi but I really rate blonde Suga, like honestly I think he looks amazing!

I can’t talk about any music video without having a little section on my bias. Jungkook, wow I have so much to say. Firstly, ARREST ME. Why did they have to make him a police man? It killed me but gave me life all at the same time so I can’t complain. You can tell kookie is really feeling himself in this music video and I can totally get behind it. Let’s get it JK.

One of my favourite parts of this music video is RM’s rap and his beginning. I remember watching RM’s rap and being stunned by how good it was and how much personality he had. Still to this day it impresses me.

Also, the beginning when he says “어서 와 방탄은 처음이지?” which means “Welcome, first time with BTS?” (which I find very funny because it legitimately was) has been memed by the other members so much.

All in all, this is one of the best music videos BTS have done, and it’s one of their best songs as well. If I ever try and get someone into BTS I will play this song and show them this music video because I think it shows their talents in music and choreography equally. It’s also a song that most people will bop their head too because it has such a great beat and the EDM vibe works very well. It was also their first mv to hit 200 million views and I think that speaks for itself.

2. Fire (Choreography Version)

Now you might find it weird that I prefer the choreography version to the original music video, but hear me out. I really love the original one, but the choreography for this song is so fire (pardon the pun) that this version is superior in my opinion.

First off we need to talk about the choreography. Seeming as that’s the main reason it’s my second favourite music video. So the song itself has a dance break at every chorus which is filled with some crazy good choreography. I’ve watched this music video so many times that I do the dance in my head whenever I listen to the song. At the bridge, Jimin shows us some crazy good footwork and man oh man I forget how good these boys are. I always watch that part in absolute awe of their talent, that would take me so long to learn and I bet it took them like a few days. Absolute kings.

Along with the fire dancing, they are wearing some incredible outfits. They have 2 outfits in this music video and they’re all very different from one another, but serve the same style and give an overall look to the mv. My personal favourite outfits are all of Jungkook’s (obviously I’m biased), Jimin’s all black outfit with the palm tree jacket and Yoongi’s blue palm tree shirt with the white cap. They stand out to me as being particularly amazing.

Hair colours are again, a massive thing in this music video. Blonde Jin is here and I am such a fan I honestly can’t express it. Whilst we’re talking about Jin, let’s talk about the amount of screen time he gets in this music video. To follow with the amount of lines he gets, he gets just as much screen time and honestly that boy serves some serious looks and totally owns this music video.

Another hair colour I absolutely adore is Tae’s. In some scenes it looks like a faded orange, and in others it looks like a faded pink and he rocks both. I’m confused throughout the entire music video but he looks incredible anyway so I’ll happily be confused. Tae owns this music video as well, from the bridge onwards the mv becomes his and he is really feeling himself and is in his element.

One amazing thing about this song and music video is how Yoongi begins and ends the song by speaking in a really deep voice, and man it gives me chills! He looks so badass when he does it, he has this seductive yet powerful look on his face that shows he’s ready to wreck your bias list.

All in all, amazing music video, amazing choreography, amazing cinematography, amazing song, amazing everything!

1. MIC Drop Remix

Holy crap there is so much to say about this music video. As it’s their most recent mv it’s got the biggest budget and you can really tell. The main thing I love about this music video is the version it is, not that I dislike the Desiigner version, but I prefer this one tenfold so I was very happy this was the one they chose to do a music video too. Also, because this one’s my favourite there will be many sections, so get ready!

So we’re going to start by talking about the intro and the fact that STEVE AOKI, I repeat, STEVE AOKI, starts it all off. I can’t actually explain how amazing it is to see BTS working with such a big name I’m so glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve. Anyway, so when Aoki enters the mv it gives me chills because we all know what’s coming. We know we’re about to get slayed by this remix.

The choreography, like do I even need to talk about it? Well yes because it’s amazing, but equally no because it goes without saying how great it is. But honestly, this is hands down the most intense choreography they have done. Every move is so powerful.

Here’s the biggest section. The actual mv itself. In terms of cinematography and editing, there are so many points where I was blown away by it. First off, in the first section you have Jin and RM appear when the beat makes a “bang bang” noise and it’s so perfectly timed and adds so much emphasis on that particular part of the song.

About 10 seconds later is the MIC MIC Bungee transition between J-Hope and Suga, and wow how they transitioned between two locations with a moving camera honestly blew my mind. Again, I don’t know if that’s me being a media student and over analysing it, but that is such a hard thing to achieve and they do it perfectly I can’t even explain.

Fast forward a little bit and we get to the ‘fly’ scene where Jungkook and Jimin fly in slow motion while Suga finishes his rap. Obviously this is done using a wire and the boys are dragged backwards, but it looks so real because the scene is so dark you can’t see the wires. In the shots where you can see both of them, it looks so badass, but in the solo ones they both look so funny. Either way it’s still impressive and adds so much to the mv.

After this we’re heading to the second chorus and the 3rd or 4th location. It’s an outdoor set where they CGI a car exploding behind them. The timing of the explosion puts such an emphasis on the beat it always get’s me so hyped. Throughout the rest of the section they CGI the remains of the explosion falling around them and it makes everything seem that much cooler and badass.

A final really cool section done in post production, is the final black and white section. The boys filmed this in front of a green screen so the entire thing is CGI and post production editing. The black and off-white effect they use makes the boys look incredible, and the set they create with CGI looks so realistic. As Jungkook said “ARMYs will think this is a set” because it honestly looks so real.

Other things I really liked about the music video were of course the costume. The outfits they wear throughout this music video really embody the new style of clothing that rappers wear in American music videos. They add a Korean edge to them and the whole look of the music video is very cool. I mean do I even need to mention how good Tae looks in a bandana? I think this gif speaks for itself.

Finally, how can I not mention the fact half of it is in English?! Obviously it’s nice to listen to a BTS song and know instantly what they’re saying rather than having to translate it, but I really hope they don’t make English versions too often. Korean is such a beautiful language and they’d loose such a core value if they did that. But anyway, I really appreciated how amazing their pronunciation was. Obviously they have a slight accent, but I actually really like that. I just couldn’t believe how good they sounded and how clear the words were. We really do stan kings.

So there we go, those are my personal top 5 favourite music videos. I'd love to know if any of these are any of your favourites, so please leave a comment letting me know.

Anyway, tune in next time for another ramble about something I like, or a rant about something I don’t.
