Avengers: Infinity War is the latest instalment in the Marvel Avengers franchise, which involves the majority of the characters involved in the franchise. It was released on 26th April, and I was one of the lucky people who got to see the midnight screening of it. Sadly, I have not seen all of the Avengers films prior to Infinity War's release, so it was safe to say I was mildly confused throughout. However, I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

Characters

As I said previously said, I haven't seen all of the Avengers films, which put me at a disadvantage. I was aware of main characters, such as Thor, Loki, Tony Stark, Captain America, etc. from the original Avengers Assemble, but not as familiar with more recent ones such as, Black Panther, Spiderman and Doctor Strange.

Due to this film being part of a franchise, they didn't introduce the characters as they assume you already know them. Because I haven't seen all of them I was left a little in the dark, having to ask my friends who was who, or simply guess based on their costume.

This lack of introduction also meant I failed to make an emotional connection to the unfamiliar characters. I really enjoyed the film, but I believe I would have loved it if I was completely in the loop with knowing all the characters. Towards the end when half the population disappeared, I lacked any kind of sadness to some characters, as I hadn't grown to love them.

Special Effects

It's safe to say that this film's production value was spectacular. The special effects and CGI were second to none, absolutely faultless. The Avengers franchise is a great way at looking how far production has come. If you watch the first Iron Man that came out in 2008, compared to Infinity War, the graphics are far superior.

It was so aesthetically pleasing to watch. Although the whole concept for the film is fantasy, all the destruction and physical fighting looks very realistic. As usual, the other worlds that they create are spectacular. They did very well making them look distinctively unique to one another. The on-actor effects were phenomenal as well, for example the changing from Bruce Tanner to The Hulk, was effortless and again, very realistic and seamless.

Storyline

Going into this film I was very worried that it would be 'style over story' and it would all about the special effects and the fight scenes. I personally felt as if the storyline was strong and clear throughout. However, there was a lot of fighting, and occasionally I was left thinking 'this has been going on for a while'.

They incorporated so much humour into the film, and honestly made it hilarious to watch. This was mainly due to the pairing up of characters. My personal favourite friendships in this film being: Thor and Rocket Raccoon, a.k.a Rabbit; Iron Man and Spiderman; and Captain America and Thor.

My favourite, enemies to friendships were: Thor and Star-Lord and Iron Man and Doctor Strange. There was a lot of hidden comedy as well as outright humour, which I found make the film very easy to watch. It relieved the tension and provided comic relief which really worked, and was always funny.

All in all I would rate Avengers: Infinity War as a solid 7 out of 10. If I had watched the previous films and enjoyed it more, I believe the rating would be a lot higher.

Tune in next time for another ramble about something I like, or a rant about something I don’t.
